I started out photographing things most people walk past. Macro work teaches you to wait, and to see what is actually in front of you.
Both of those matter more when the subject is a person. A portrait worth keeping is rarely the pose held correctly — it is the half-second after someone stops performing. My job is to be set up, ready, and patient enough to still be there when it happens.
